The following natural Arabic hair care solutions should be used for at least one month in order to feel and see some real benefits.

Arabic Hair Care Solution – Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is used by Arab and South Asian women. Apply the coconut to dry hair, wrap the hair with a cloth or towel. Leave the coconut oil in your hair for at least 9 to 10 hours or overnight. You can apply the coconut oil before you wash your hair (every two to three days) so it can become part of your usual hair routine.

Arabic Hair Care Solution – Apricot and Coconut Oil

Mix apricot and coconut cream in a bowl. Apply solution to hair and leave on for 10 minutes, then wash hair with regular shampoo.

Arabic Hair Care Solution – Fenugreek seeds with coconut/olive oil

Grind fenugreek seeds. Then mix with coconut or olive oil. Leave the mix aside for about 10 days. Then apply the mix onto the hair. Leave on hair for 20 minutes. Do this twice a week.

Arabic Hair Care Solution – olive oil, sesame oil, elisa grass, black seeds, almond oil

Mix natural olive oil, sesame oil, 25 ml of dry ground elisa grass, 25 ml of ground black seeds, and almond oil. Use the mix two times per week for one or two hours. Massage it into your hair with circular movements.

You can create a side braid in your fringe in a few simple steps. Remember practice makes perfect.

A few things to consider before creating a side braid in your fringe:

It is easier to braid hair the day after it has been washed as your hair will have more natural oils and a better texture to hold the side braids in place.

Apply moisturizer or serum to thick/curly/frizzy hair before you create the side braid as this will help to tame the hair and maintain the style for longer.

Alternatively, if your hair is fine you may want to apply some styling products to your hair to help hold the side braid in place.

A few steps to create a side braid in your fringe:

Section off the hair to be braided in your fringe by creating a parting. You can start the parting on your left or right hand side, whichever side you prefer.

The size of the parting depends on how big you want the braid to be and the style you want to achieve. You can also create a middle parting for added effect.

Once you have created a parting between the front section to be braided and the rest of your hair, check that the parting is even and brush the front section forward.

Tie the rest of your hair into a ponytail. Once you have created the side braid you can leave your hair in a ponytail, create a funky updo or simply leave the rest of your hair down.

Take the front section of hair and divide it into 3 separate and even strands as if you would when braiding/plaiting your hair in the back.

Once you have created a side braid across your fringe, you can either include the braid into a simple ponytail, a styled updo or you can use a hair clip to pin the braid at the back of your ears. This all depends on the length of your hair and the hairstyle you want to go for.

Madam C.J. Walker, born Sarah Breedlove, was an African-American businesswoman, hair care entrepreneur and philanthropist. She made her fortune by developing and marketing a hugely successful line of black beauty and black hair products for women under the company she founded, Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company.

Madame CJ Walker did not have a fortunate start in life but worked hard to turn it round. Born in 1867 to former slaves and orphaned at the age of seven, Madame CJ Walker worked with her sister in cotton fields and later became a house maid.

She married at the age of fourteen and her only daughter A’Lelia was born when she was eighteen, sadly her husband passed away by the time she was twenty. Madame CJ Walker went on to marry twice. Her third husband, Charles Joseph Walker and her daughter had key roles in the growth and day-to-day operations of the business she later went on to develop.

Black Hair Care Needs

Like many women of her era, Madame CJ Walker experienced hair loss. Because most Americans lacked indoor plumbing, central heating and electricity, they bathed and washed their hair infrequently. The result was scalp disease. Madame CJ Walker experimented with home remedies and products already on the market until she finally developed her own shampoo and an ointment that contained sulfur to make her scalp healthier for hair growth.

Madame Walker’s aggressive marketing strategy combined with relentless ambition led her to be known as a leading business woman with a lasting legacy.

Improved Permanent Wave Machine – Black Hair Relaxer

An employee of Madame CJ Walker’s empire, Marjorie Joyner invented an improved permanent wave machine. This device patented in 1928, curled or "permed" women’s hair for a relatively lengthy period of time. The wave machine was popular among women white and black allowing for longer-lasting wavy hair styles. Joyner went on to become a prominent figure in Madame CJ Walker’s industry, though she never profited directly from her invention, the assigned intellectual property of the Walker Company .

When Madame CJ Walker was confronted with the idea that she was trying to conform black women's hair to that of whites, she stressed that her products were simply an attempt to help black women take proper care of their hair and promote its growth .

I got my start by giving myself a start.

I am a woman who came from the cotton fields of the South. From there I was promoted to the washtub. From there I was promoted to the cook kitchen. And from there I promoted myself into the business of manufacturing hair goods and preparations. I have built my own factory on my own ground.

I had to make my own living and my own opportunity. But I made it! Don’t sit down and wait for the opportunities to come. Get up and make them.

One night I had a dream, and in that dream a big black man appeared to me and told me what to mix up for my hair. I made up my mind I would begin to sell it.

I am not satisfied in making money for myself. I endeavour to provide employment for hundreds of the women of my race.

There is no royal flower-strewn path to success. And if there is, I have not found it for if I have accomplished anything in life it is because I have been willing to work hard.

Perseverance is my motto.

Black Hair Care Legacy

Madame C.J. Walker died at Villa Lewaro on Sunday, May 25, 1919 from complications of hypertension. She was 51. At her death she was considered to be the wealthiest African-American woman in America and known to be the first self-made female American millionaire. Her daughter, A'Lelia Walker, became the president of the C.J Walker Manufacturing Company.

Use the hand held mirror for close up plucking, then use the large mirror to look at both brows as you pluck. It helps if you sit or stand in front of a large mirror so that you can quickly check that your eyebrows are staying even as you pluck them.

Tip Four
You should always shape both eyebrows at the same time so that they stay even.

Please note that skin of colour, which contains melanocytes – cells that give the skin pigment, are especially active – they produce more colour. Style Tip One - this style works on curly, straight or relaxed hair.

At night, Take long hair in small sections & de-tangle with fingers.

Then twist and coil the sections, pinning them close to the head.

In the morning, you'll have volumes of beautiful hair.

Style Tip Two

Braid chunks of hair in sections

At the end of each braid brush the loose hair around your finger, apply a small amount of gel to set the curl.

Style Tip Three

Wash your hair, towel dry and apply a leave in conditioner

Then platt your hair into two pig tails.

Leave hair to dry (this may take a few hours to a whole day depending on your hair type).

Once your hair is dry, undo the platts and style using a gel or hair spray if needed.

Hair dryers, hot combs and tongs are widely used on Black hair, but these can cause damage if not used properly or over used.

Possible problems

Hot combs and tongs can reach high temperatures, this heat can raise the temperature of pomades to become heated oil, if the hot oil touches the scalp is can cause minor burns.

If the hot oil seeps into the hair follicle it can cause inflammation and even hair loss, which could become permanent.

Possible solutions

Washing - wash every 7 to 10 days.

Washing - select a conditioning shampoo for dry damaged hair.

Conditioning - use deep or reconstructive conditioner

Conditioning - leave in for 20-30 minutes

Conditioning - for very dry hair, alternate between hot oil and conditioner

Styling - After hair has been pressed/blow dried, curl ends with warm (not hot) curling tong/iron.

Styling - use rollers at night, or wrap hair.

Trimming - Get your hair trimmed every 8 weeks

Alternative to blow-drying

Comb the hair flat.

Sit under the dryer. This will leave hair straight.
